In the fall of 2019, eight Peer Mentors and two Life Directions staff attended a weekend conference at the YMCA Camp Storer in Jackson, Michigan with youth from eight other organizations, sponsored by the Ann Arbor based Neutral Zone. The theme of the weekend was training youth to develop and practice leadership skills. The final goal was for each group to design a “quick win” project. Life Directions involves youth in four seasonal events each year.

In January, members of the Life Directions Youth Board attended a one day seminar at Eastern Michigan University, sponsored by the Neutral Zone. This was an opportunity for youth groups to pitch proposals for projects, with the opportunity to be awarded funds for their project.
