Board of Trustees, Donors, and CoachesToday young adults are
increasingly isolated from the wisdom of previous generations. Through broken
families, geographic distance, and technologies that even separate the
generations in their own home, adolescents and young adults have lost
"face-time" with elders. The consequences are troubling:
- School dropout
- Increased alcohol and substance use
- Violence directed toward self and others
- Teenage pregnancy and fatherhood
- Devaluation of marriage and family life
To address these problems, Life Directions is seeking collaborative partnerships
and financial resources to improve, expand and strengthen the bond between
generations and to reconnect atrisk adolescents and young adults with elders who
can guide them to adulthood. You can complete the circle by joining the
Board of Trustees, by becoming a donor, or by becoming an adult coach.
Board of Trustees
As a member of the Board of Trustees, you would join a number of community
leaders in critical discussions about the challenges that face our
neighborhoods, families, and youth. Trustees are positioned to take positive
action for the good of the next generation.
The Board of Trustees meets six times per year, as does the Executive Committee,
for consistent policy, fiscal oversight, and fundraising. A "Signature Event" is
organized by the Trustees to raise Life Direction's profile in the community and
funds for it programs. Each Trustee serves for a three-year term that runs from
July 1st to June 30th.
Donors
Donors make regular contributions to Life Directions for support of its
programs. Donors receive Peer Inspirations, the newsletter of Life Directions,
and recognition on the Web Site.
Adult Coaches
Adult Coaches make a difference in the life of a young adult by sharing
their life experience and wisdom. They receive training from Life Directions
staff and agree to be a coach for a minimum of one year. As part of the training
process, adult coaches determine their level of presence with young adults
through choosing how much time they are able to give to the program.
