Tucson's Tribute to "Sister Rosalie's Program"
Often when violence among young adults becomes the norm, authorities are at a loss to remedy the situation. A palpable spirit of hopelessness then pervades community life. The situation at Sunnyside High School was moving in this direction when Sister Rosalie entered the picture in 1998.
Tucson's story demonstrates how the "atmosphere" of a school can change by creating a culture that values all students, and encourages them to inspire their peers to seek alternatives to violence. Best of all, Life Directions students are the storytellers of "Sister Rosalie's Program" as it is affectionately called by Sunnyside's faculty and students.
