Fr. John Phelps: Everyone's success is measured by their succession
In 2002, Life Directions received generous funding from the Raskab Foundation to re-structure our organization and to plan for succession. We all knew there would come a day when Fr. John Phelps would no longer be at the helm. On August 1, 2005 that day arrived, as Fr. John became the pastor of Saint Alphonsus Liguori in Saint Louis!
To summarize the accomplishments of his leadership would be an impossible task. In 1973, Life Directions sprouted from the vision of five young adults in Detroit who wanted to address the unprecedented level of violence occurring in the city. On average, one young adult was dying by homicide every seventeen hours!
